What Factors Can Increase the Risk of Motorcycle Crashes in Traffic Areas?
Motorcycle crashes often occur when visibility, speed, and unexpected maneuvers intersect, especially in areas with turning vehicles like store entrances. When riders perform stunts such as wheelies, control of the motorcycle can be reduced, and reaction time to sudden changes in traffic becomes limited.
Vehicles making turns into driveways or parking lots may not anticipate a fast-approaching motorcycle, particularly if it is not traveling in a typical manner. This can lead to collisions where the rider has little opportunity to avoid the impact.
Additionally, motorcycles are smaller and less visible than other vehicles, increasing the risk of being overlooked. Both riders and drivers must remain alert, follow traffic laws, and anticipate each other’s actions to reduce the likelihood of crashes in busy roadway environments.
