San Leandro, CA (May 3, 2026) – A fatal multi-vehicle crash caused major disruptions early Monday morning along Interstate 880 northbound near the Davis Street off-ramp in San Leandro.
According to reports from the California Highway Patrol, the collision occurred around 4:14 a.m. and involved multiple vehicles, including a box truck and at least one passenger vehicle. Initial calls indicated that debris was scattered across all lanes, with some vehicles blocking both the main lanes and the off-ramp.
When emergency crews arrived, they found a severely damaged scene, including a mangled vehicle crushed against a truck. Tragically, at least one person was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities also reported that ambulances transported additional individuals to nearby hospitals, though the number of injured and the severity of their conditions have not been fully confirmed.
All northbound lanes were temporarily shut down as crews worked to assist victims, investigate the crash, and clear the roadway. Traffic was brought to a standstill for several hours, and a SigAlert was issued due to the extent of the incident. By later in the morning, lanes gradually reopened, though the Davis Street off-ramp remained closed for a longer period as recovery operations continued.
