La Jolla, CA (January 26, 2026) – A 19-year-old male was hospitalized with traumatic injuries following a scooter collision on January 25 at the University of California, San Diego campus in La Jolla. Emergency crews from Medic 35 responded to the scene where campus police were already present.
According to paramedics, the teen had been riding a scooter with his girlfriend when they collided head-on with another person on a separate scooter. The impact caused him to fall to the ground, where he was found alert and responsive but reporting pain and visible injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident.
The rider sustained abrasions to his right cheek, shoulder, and hip, along with complaints of shoulder pain and some loosened upper teeth on the right side. Despite the facial trauma, he denied loss of consciousness and did not report head, neck, or back pain. He was stabilized with a cervical collar and transported to UCSD Thornton Hospital for further treatment.
