Lewisdale, MD (April 28, 2026) – One person was injured after a house fire broke out Saturday evening, April 25, in Lewisdale. The incident occurred shortly before 7 p.m. in the 2000 block of Drexel Street at a three-story multi-family home.
Emergency crews responded after reports of a structure fire with people possibly trapped inside. When firefighters arrived, flames were seen coming from the upper level of the building.
Authorities said one person escaped the fire by jumping from a window. That individual was transported to a nearby hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire crews from multiple agencies worked to bring the flames under control. Additional units assisted at the scene as firefighters extinguished the fire and checked the structure for safety.
No other injuries were immediately reported. Officials are continuing to investigate the incident and evaluate the circumstances surrounding the fire.
We are thinking of those affected as they recover.
Why House Fires Can Become Life-Threatening Quickly
Residential fires can spread rapidly, especially in multi-level buildings where heat and smoke rise quickly to upper floors. In many cases, occupants may have only minutes to evacuate once a fire begins.
Smoke inhalation is often one of the greatest dangers, as it can reduce visibility and make escape routes difficult to access. When exits are blocked, people may attempt emergency escapes such as jumping from windows, which can still result in serious injury. Fire crews typically focus first on search and rescue before fully extinguishing the fire. Investigators later examine the point of origin, potential electrical issues, and other contributing factors to determine how the fire started.
