What Is Often Reviewed After Pedestrian Crashes at Roadway Intersections
Pedestrian crashes frequently require investigators to examine visibility, traffic flow, and the exact movements of both the vehicle and the pedestrian before impact. Lighting conditions and roadway design may also be reviewed, especially during nighttime incidents.
Drivers traveling on rural or lower-lit roads may have limited reaction time when a pedestrian suddenly enters the roadway. Investigators often assess stopping distance, vehicle speed, and the impact location to better understand how the collision occurred.
Serious pedestrian injuries are common because the human body has little protection during a collision with a moving vehicle. In severe cases, medical helicopters may be used to quickly transport injured victims to regional trauma centers for advanced treatment.
