Understanding Pedestrian Accidents on Highways
Pedestrian crashes on high-speed roadways are particularly dangerous due to the limited time drivers have to react. When a vehicle strikes someone, the force can cause severe injuries, and leaving the scene delays medical attention and complicates investigations.
Highways are not designed for pedestrian travel, so accidents often occur when people are exposed to moving traffic. Safety measures like crosswalks, sidewalks, and reduced-speed areas help prevent incidents, but pedestrians remain highly vulnerable when entering lanes of travel. Emergency responders prioritize safely securing victims and gathering information about the incident.
