How Pedestrian Accidents Can Happen During Backing Maneuvers
Pedestrian accidents sometimes occur when drivers are reversing, especially in areas with limited visibility. Blind spots behind vehicles can make it difficult to see someone standing or walking nearby.
Confusing the brake and accelerator pedals can cause a vehicle to move unexpectedly. Even at low speeds, a sudden movement can cause serious injury to a person outside the vehicle.
Investigators often review the vehicle’s position, lighting conditions, and any nearby obstructions. They may also consider how the vehicle was positioned before it began backing up and whether the driver had a clear view of the area behind them.
