How Winter Road Conditions Increase Crash Risks
Snow-covered highways can reduce tire traction and make steering more difficult. Even experienced drivers may struggle to maintain control when road surfaces are slick.
Emergency vehicles responding to active incidents often travel with lights and sirens activated, which can require quick decision-making and rapid movement. Combined with winter conditions, this can increase the risk of a vehicle leaving the roadway.
Reducing speed and maintaining extra distance on snow-covered roads can help lower the risk of crashes during Wisconsin’s winter months.
