What Factors Can Affect Pedestrian Safety in Los Angeles?
Pedestrian crashes in Los Angeles often happen during early morning or low-light hours, when visibility is reduced. Drivers may have difficulty seeing someone in the roadway, especially outside marked crosswalks.
Traffic flow and speed also affect how quickly a vehicle can stop. In busy areas like Van Nuys, multiple lanes and turning traffic can increase the risk for people on foot.
Street design can also influence safety. Features such as marked crossings, signals, and proper lighting can help reduce the risk of serious crashes by making pedestrians more visible to drivers.
