Louisville, KY (January 28, 2026) – A young woman was airlifted to University of Louisville Hospital following a head-on collision in Ripley County on January 27. The driver, reportedly in her twenties, sustained life-threatening injuries and required extensive emergency intervention before and during transport.
Responders stated the woman was initially conscious upon their arrival but quickly lost responsiveness at the scene. She had no measurable blood pressure for much of the initial assessment, with first readings recorded as low as 50/60. Emergency crews administered two units of blood and several vasoactive medications in an effort to stabilize her condition.
In addition to receiving a chest tube and multiple thoracic interventions, the woman was still in critical condition during flight, with oxygen saturation levels at 80% and a heart rate of 125. She was transported directly to trauma care at University of Louisville Hospital, where emergency teams were prepared for her arrival.
Our hearts are with the injured driver and her loved ones, and we hope for her full and steady recovery.
