Why Motorcycle Crashes at Intersections Often Result in Serious Injuries
Motorcycles provide far less protection than passenger vehicles, making collisions especially dangerous. Even a low-speed impact can cause serious harm because riders are exposed and may be thrown from the bike.
Intersections are common locations for motorcycle accidents because vehicles are crossing paths or turning across traffic. Drivers may misjudge a motorcycle’s speed or fail to see the rider while making a turn.
Traffic signals, changing lanes, and multiple directions of travel can also increase the risk of a crash. When a motorcycle and a larger vehicle collide, the difference in size and weight often leads to more severe injuries for the rider.
