Madera County, CA (January 16, 2026) – The woman killed in a deadly U-turn crash in eastern Madera County has been identified as 41-year-old Lashirah Bullard of Compton, according to the Madera County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal collision occurred around 12:15 a.m. on January 9, 2026, along Road 28½ just north of Harper Blvd. Authorities say Bullard was driving a 2011 Nissan Altima southbound when she attempted a U-turn from the right shoulder directly into the path of a 2026 Toyota Corolla, also traveling southbound and driven by a 21-year-old Madera man.
The Toyota collided with Bullard’s vehicle during the maneuver, sending the Altima into the southbound lane where it came to rest, while the Corolla veered into a roadside ditch. Despite life-saving efforts by first responders, Bullard was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in Bullard’s vehicle suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. The driver of the Corolla was reportedly uninjured in the crash.
Authorities have not confirmed whether impairment played a role in the incident. Toxicology results are pending as the investigation remains ongoing.
This marks the second fatal crash in the county that involved a U-turn in less than a week. A similar incident on Highway 145 earlier that week sent three people to the hospital and resulted in one fatality, underscoring continued concerns about the dangers of improper turning maneuvers on rural roads.
We extend our deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Lashirah Bullard during this difficult time.
