Why Rural Highway Intersections Often See Severe Crashes
Intersections where a county road meets a major highway can create dangerous crossing points. Vehicles traveling on the highway usually move at higher speeds, while traffic from the side road must judge when it is safe to enter or cross.
When a crash involves a larger pickup and an SUV, the angle of impact can lead to major damage to one vehicle’s passenger area. The direction of travel and the point of contact often influence how serious the outcome becomes.
Clear sight lines, traffic control signs, and driver awareness all affect how safely these intersections operate. Slowing down when approaching a crossing and checking carefully for oncoming traffic can reduce the chance of a collision.
