Fresno, CA (July 9, 2026) – A head-on traffic collision resulting in major injuries was reported on Thursday morning at the intersection of South Maple Avenue and East American Avenue in Fresno County.

According to the California Highway Patrol dispatch log, the collision was reported at approximately 10:53 a.m. Initial information indicated a silver Mitsubishi SUV collided head-on with a white Ford pickup truck pulling a horse trailer. The dispatch log stated the Mitsubishi crossed the center line before the collision, and both vehicles came to rest in a nearby yard.

Emergency units arrived at the intersection and determined the two-vehicle collision involved major injuries. Dispatch records indicate everyone involved was taken to Community Regional Medical Center for treatment. Tow trucks were requested to remove the damaged Mitsubishi Outlander and other vehicles from the roadway.

The identities of those involved have not been released. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.

We extend our sincere wishes for a full recovery to everyone receiving medical care following this crash.

Why Head-On Collisions Frequently Result in Severe Injuries

Head-on collisions are among the most serious types of roadway crashes because the combined force of two vehicles traveling toward one another can produce significant damage. Even at moderate speeds, occupants may experience substantial forces that increase the likelihood of serious injuries.

After a head-on collision, investigators typically examine vehicle positions, roadway markings, physical evidence, and witness statements to determine how the vehicles came together. They may also review roadway conditions, visibility, and electronic data from the vehicles when available. Medical evaluations are common for everyone involved because some injuries may not be immediately apparent, allowing healthcare providers to identify and treat conditions that develop after the initial impact.
