How Vehicle Fires Can Develop After Serious Highway Crashes
Vehicle fires after crashes can occur when fuel systems are damaged during impact. Even a small rupture in a fuel line or tank can lead to ignition if exposed to heat or sparks.
High-speed collisions increase the risk of fire because of the force involved and the potential for multiple points of damage. In some cases, fuel leaks may spread quickly across the roadway.
Emergency response is often focused on both fire suppression and medical care at the same time. Quick action from first responders can help reduce further injury risk and limit damage at the scene.
