The Dangers of Running Red Lights and Speeding at Kansas City Intersections
Intersection crashes in Kansas City involving red-light violations and speeding are a serious and ongoing concern for traffic safety. When a driver runs a red light, they enter a zone where cross-traffic has the legal right of way, leaving almost no time for either driver to react. Add high speed to the mix, and the force of impact increases dramatically, raising the likelihood of severe or fatal injuries.
Suspected impaired driving after dark compounds these dangers further. The reaction times slow considerably and judgment becomes impaired, making drivers more likely to speed or miss traffic signals entirely. In Missouri, suspected DUI involvement in a fatal crash typically results in additional criminal review beyond the standard accident investigation, which can significantly extend the timeline before a full picture of events emerges.
