Marcy, NY (May 7, 2026) – Two people were injured after a tractor-trailer entered an active work zone and collided with vehicles along the New York State Thruway in Marcy early Wednesday morning.
The crash happened shortly after 6 a.m. on May 7. According to preliminary information, a tractor-trailer traveling eastbound failed to follow lane change signs and entered a marked work zone. The vehicle struck a concrete barrier before continuing through the area.
The tractor-trailer then struck a parked pickup truck with a driver inside. Emergency units responded and transported both drivers to Wynn Hospital for treatment. Officials said both individuals sustained injuries that were not life-threatening.
The tractor-trailer driver, identified as a driver from Halifax, Massachusetts, later received citations for traffic violations. Preliminary reports also indicated speed may have been a contributing factor in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available. We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care.
How Work Zone Crashes Involving Large Trucks Are Commonly Examined
Work zone crashes often require a detailed review of traffic control setup and driver behavior. Investigators typically examine signage placement, lane-shift warnings, and whether drivers followed marked detours leading into restricted areas.
Large commercial vehicles are also assessed for speed, braking distance, and reaction time, especially when approaching sudden lane changes or narrowed roadway sections. Even small deviations in judgment can lead to significant impacts in confined work zones.
Vehicle damage patterns and barrier impact points are also reviewed to understand the sequence of events. These details help reconstruct how the truck entered the restricted area and how the secondary collision occurred within the work zone.
