Why Bicycle Crashes at Intersections Can Lead to Serious Injuries
Intersections are common locations for bicycle accidents because drivers and cyclists must react quickly to crossing traffic and changing conditions. Limited visibility, sudden movements, and traffic flow can increase the chances of a collision, especially in residential areas and small borough streets.
Children riding bicycles may face added risks because they can have difficulty judging vehicle speed and roadway gaps. Drivers may also have less time to stop when a bicyclist enters an intersection unexpectedly.
After a bicycle crash, investigators often review roadway markings, traffic controls, and the positions of the vehicles involved. Medical evaluations are also common because injuries may not always appear severe immediately after the collision.
