What Types of Damage Are Common After Residential Fires?
Residential fires can lead to severe structural and smoke damage within minutes, especially when flames spread between connected homes or porch areas. Heat from the fire may weaken walls, ceilings, and stairways, even after the flames are extinguished.
Smoke exposure can also create serious health concerns for people inside or near the building. Breathing in smoke may affect the lungs and can require hospital treatment, particularly for older adults or those trapped inside during the fire.
Water used to control the flames may add further damage to floors, furniture, and electrical systems. In many cases, nearby homes can also be affected when flames or smoke move through shared spaces between properties.
