Medway, MA (April 11, 2026) – A United States Postal Service worker was seriously injured after a crash left her trapped beneath her mail truck on Main Street.
The crash occurred shortly before 11:20 a.m. on Friday, April 10, when a red pickup truck struck the rear of a postal delivery vehicle traveling along Main Street. At the time of impact, the mail carrier was leaning out of the truck to deliver mail.
The force of the collision caused the postal truck to roll into the mulch of a nearby residential lawn. The driver became partially trapped beneath the vehicle. Emergency units responded to the scene, where bystanders and a nurse assisted the woman until firefighters arrived.
Fire crews used airbags to lift the truck and free the postal worker. She was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Worcester for treatment of serious injuries. The pickup driver was also taken to a hospital. No charges have been filed, and the crash remains under investigation.
Authorities said the soft mulch beneath the truck may have helped prevent more severe injuries.
We are thinking of those injured as they continue to recover.
How Rear-End Crashes Can Become Severe in Delivery and Work Zones
Rear-end crashes involving service or delivery vehicles can be especially dangerous when workers are actively outside or partially outside their vehicles. In these situations, even low- or moderate-speed impacts can lead to serious injuries.
Roadside delivery work often requires frequent stops and quick movement between the vehicle and nearby homes. This can increase exposure to passing traffic, particularly on busy residential roads.
Emergency response in these cases may involve lifting or stabilizing heavy vehicles using specialized equipment. Quick bystander assistance, combined with trained responders, can play a key role in improving outcomes while ensuring the scene remains safe.
