Miami Beach, FL (March 13, 2026) – Three people were injured on Friday morning, March 13, after a rental SUV crashed into a bus stop at the intersection of Collins Avenue and 38th Street in Miami Beach.
Emergency units responded just before 11 a.m. after reports that a vehicle had struck pedestrians waiting at the stop. Officials said the driver, a man in his 60s, had recently rented the SUV from a nearby location before entering Collins Avenue.
According to preliminary information, the driver miscalculated a turn and lost control of the vehicle. The SUV crashed into the bus stop, striking one man and injuring two other people who were waiting nearby.
The man suffered a leg injury and was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Two young women who were also waiting at the stop were transported to the hospital as well. Authorities said all three injured pedestrians are expected to recover.
The driver remained at the scene and was cited for careless driving. The crash remains under investigation.
We extend our thoughts to those injured and wish them a full recovery.
Why Bus Stop Areas Can Be Risk Zones for Pedestrian Crashes
Busy streets such as Collins Avenue often include bus stops where pedestrians gather close to active traffic lanes. When vehicles travel near these areas, drivers must pay close attention to surrounding traffic, parked vehicles, and people waiting nearby.
Bus stops can become crowded during peak travel times or busy tourist seasons. Groups of people standing near the curb may be exposed if a vehicle leaves the roadway or loses control.
Even small driving errors, such as misjudging a turn or accelerating too quickly, can lead to a vehicle entering a pedestrian space. Because people at bus stops are stationary and close to traffic, they may have little time to move out of the way if a crash occurs.
