How Left-Turn Pedestrian Crashes Commonly Occur at Busy Intersections
Pedestrian crashes during left turns often happen when drivers are focused on oncoming traffic and fail to see people crossing in front of them. Busy intersections can increase the chance of misjudging timing or missing a pedestrian in the crosswalk.
Morning rush-hour traffic can also contribute to reduced visibility and higher stress levels for drivers. These conditions may affect reaction time and awareness of surroundings.
Investigators typically review traffic signals, lane positions, and witness accounts to better understand how a pedestrian entered the intersection and how the driver responded before impact.
