Las Vegas, NV (June 4, 2026) – A minibike rider is in life-threatening condition after a collision with a pickup truck at Wisteria Avenue and Shawnee Avenue on Wednesday night, June 3. The wreck was reported at approximately 10:33 p.m.
A non-street-legal minibike was traveling southbound on Wisteria Avenue when a 2019 Ram 1500 heading northbound turned left at the intersection. The front of the truck struck the minibike, sending it northward. The Ram then left the roadway and came to a controlled stop at the northwest corner of the intersection.
The minibike rider was taken to a trauma center, where he remained in critical condition. His identity had not been released as of the initial report on the accident.
What led to the turn at that moment is still under review, and further details will be shared as the review of the collision progresses. We are keeping the rider in our thoughts as he receives care.
What Are the Legal Risks of Riding a Non-Street-Legal Minibike in Nevada?
Non-street-legal minibikes are not registered, insured, or equipped to meet the safety standards required for public road use in Nevada. Riding one on a public street exposes the operator to a citation and vehicle removal, but more significantly, it removes key legal protections that come with street-legal registration. In a crash involving an unregistered minibike, insurance coverage and liability questions can become significantly more complicated.
Beyond the legal issues, non-street-legal minibikes typically lack the safety features found on road-approved motorcycles, including proper lighting, mirrors, and braking systems built for higher-speed road use. At intersections, where turning vehicles and oncoming traffic converge, visibility and stopping distance are especially important. A bike without adequate lights or reflectors is far harder for other drivers to see, particularly at night, which raises the risk of exactly the kind of turning-vehicle collision that can occur at busy urban cross streets.
