Monkton, VT (January 20, 2026) – Several people were injured, including student athletes, in a serious head-on collision that occurred Saturday evening on Bristol Road near Hardscrabble Road in Monkton, according to Vermont State Police.
Troopers from the New Haven Barracks responded to the crash around 5:35 p.m. on January 17. At the time of the incident, weather conditions were clear, but snow and slush covered the roadway, contributing to dangerous driving conditions.
Investigators determined that 35-year-old Chao Xu of McLean, Virginia, was driving a 2025 GMC Yukon XL northbound when he lost control of the vehicle. The GMC crossed the center line and collided head-on with a 2017 Toyota Tacoma traveling in the southbound lane.
The Toyota Tacoma was driven by 53-year-old Christopher Glaski of Bennington and was occupied by three teen passengers—all members of the Mt. Anthony Union High School wrestling team. The group was reportedly traveling in connection with team activities at the time of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that everyone involved in the collision was wearing seat belts. The GMC’s driver and passengers sustained suspected minor injuries. Glaski and one of the teens suffered moderate injuries, while two other teen passengers sustained serious injuries.
All individuals were transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center for medical treatment. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage, and airbags were deployed.
In a public statement, the Southwest Vermont Supervisory Union and Mt. Anthony Union High School acknowledged the incident and asked the community to keep the injured student-athletes and coach in their thoughts during this difficult time.
We join the Mt. Anthony community in extending our heartfelt support to all those affected by this crash and wish everyone involved a full and swift recovery.
