Montcalm County, MI (February 24, 2026) – Two people suffered life-threatening injuries on Saturday morning, February 21, following a crash involving a semi-truck and a pickup truck in Montcalm County. The collision happened around 9:37 a.m. at the intersection of M-91 and Kendaville Road.
Reports indicate the semi-truck was traveling eastbound on Kendaville Road when it failed to stop at a posted stop sign. The truck struck a pickup that was traveling northbound on M-91, and the impact caused severe damage to the pickup and left both occupants badly hurt.
The pickup was driven by an 82-year-old man from Cedar Springs, and a 76-year-old woman riding as a passenger was also inside the vehicle. Emergency units responded and provided aid at the scene. The woman was airlifted to a hospital due to the seriousness of her injuries, while the driver was taken by ambulance for treatment.
The semi-truck driver, a 36-year-old man from Louisiana, was not reported to have been injured. Alcohol and drugs were not believed to be factors in the crash.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, and more details will be released as soon as they become available.
We are thinking of those injured as they receive medical care and recover.
Why Rural Highway Intersections Can Be High-Risk Areas
Crashes at rural highway intersections often happen when vehicles approach at different speeds or when traffic controls are missed. Stop signs on crossroads are especially critical when one roadway carries through traffic.
Semi-trucks require longer stopping distances due to their size and weight. When a stop is missed, the force of impact can be severe for smaller vehicles.
Older drivers and passengers may face higher risks of serious injury in major crashes. Even with a quick emergency response, recovery can be complex and lengthy.
Air transport is sometimes used when injuries are critical or when the distance to a hospital is a concern. These decisions are made quickly to improve the chances of survival and treatment outcomes.
