Macedonia, SC (July 16, 2026) – A 60-year-old motorcyclist died after a collision with a pickup truck on U.S. Highway 17A on Tuesday, July 14. The crash occurred at approximately 6:53 a.m. near Church of God Road.
The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office identified the rider as Bryan M. Rodger of Bonneau. He was the only person on the 1985 Kawasaki motorcycle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other vehicle was a 2003 Ford pickup truck traveling south on U.S. Highway 17A.
Investigators continue examining the roadway evidence and vehicle movements to establish the full sequence of the accident. We extend our heartfelt condolences to Bryan M. Rodger’s family and friends as they mourn his loss.
Why Motorcycle Collisions With Pickup Trucks Can Have Severe Outcomes
Motorcycles provide far less protection than enclosed vehicles. Riders do not have a surrounding frame, airbags, or other barriers to absorb force during contact with a pickup truck.
The difference in vehicle size and weight may also increase the risk of life-threatening harm. A rider may be separated from the motorcycle and make contact with the pavement, vehicle body, or nearby objects within seconds.
A roadway review may consider lane positions, traffic controls, visibility, vehicle damage, and final stopping points.
