Camden, NJ (July 16, 2026) – A dirt bike rider lost their life after a collision involving an NJ Transit bus on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, near the Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden.

The crash happened at about 1:20 p.m. on Tuesday, June 7, at the intersection of Broadway and Federal St. Emergency units arrived after the dirt bike and the transit bus came together near the busy transportation hub.

The rider was taken to a nearby hospital, where the person later died from the injuries received. No passengers aboard the NJ Transit bus were reported injured in the initial information released.

Early reports stated that NJ Transit police were the first to reach the roadway. Additional details, including the identity of the person who was killed and the circumstances leading up to the wreck, had not been released at the time of publication. The cause of the accident remains under review as investigators continue gathering information.

Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family, friends, and loved ones mourning this tragic loss.

Why Do Crashes Involving Buses Mostly Require Detailed Reviews?

Bus-related traffic collisions are usually more complex than other roadway incidents because they may involve large passenger vehicles, motorcycles, bicycles, or pedestrians in busy urban settings. After these types of crashes, investigators typically examine roadway layouts, traffic signals, vehicle positions, surveillance footage, and witness statements to better understand what occurred. Mechanical inspections may also be completed to determine whether either vehicle experienced equipment problems before the collision.

Medical findings can help clarify the severity of injuries and establish a timeline of events. In places with heavy transit activity, nearby cameras and onboard recording systems may provide valuable information. As additional facts become available, investigators can develop a clearer picture of how the crash unfolded and whether any contributing factors played a part.
