Why Motorcycle and Vehicle Contacts Can Be Deadly
Motorcyclists face serious risks because they have far less protection than people inside cars or trucks. A rider can be thrown from the motorcycle or hit the ground with great force. Even helmets and protective clothing cannot prevent every severe injury.
Road design can also affect the outcome. Driveways, turning lanes, traffic signals, and nearby businesses may create points where vehicles and motorcycles cross paths. Drivers may have trouble seeing a motorcycle because of its smaller size, especially during busy travel periods or changing light. After a motorcycle-related emergency, medical teams often check for head, neck, chest, spine, and limb trauma. Damage patterns, travel direction, and final vehicle positions can help explain how the contact happened.
