Cleveland, OH (June 30, 2026) – A 31-year-old motorcyclist lost his life early on Sunday morning, June 28, after losing control of his motorcycle on Interstate 71 and being struck by another vehicle near the West 130th Street and Bellaire Road exit ramp in Cleveland.
According to the Cleveland Division of Police, the initial crash occurred at approximately 2:23 a.m. The motorcyclist was traveling northbound in the second lane of I-71 when the motorcycle crossed two lanes of traffic, continued onto the right shoulder, and entered the concrete and grass median separating the exit ramp from the through lanes.
Police said the rider lost control, causing the motorcycle to overturn several times before coming to rest on the exit ramp.
Moments later, an SUV exiting the freeway struck both the motorcycle and the rider. The SUV then collided with the rear of a vehicle that had stopped to assist after the initial crash, pushing it into a guardrail along the east side of the exit ramp.
The 35-year-old driver of the assisting vehicle was transported to a local hospital. Authorities have not released information about that driver’s condition. The SUV driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The Cleveland Division of Police Accident Investigation Unit is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.
