New Iberia, LA (May 14, 2026) – Two people were injured Thursday afternoon following a three-vehicle collision on East Main Street in New Iberia, with one victim airlifted to a Lafayette hospital, according to authorities.
The New Iberia Police Department said the crash occurred around 12:45 p.m. near Lewis Street. Preliminary findings indicate a blue Ford pickup truck was traveling westbound in the right lane when it attempted to make a left turn into a private parking lot. At the same time, a black BMW SUV traveling westbound in the left lane collided with the pickup truck, pushing it into another truck nearby.
Officials reported the driver of the BMW sustained moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to a local hospital. The driver of the Ford pickup suffered serious injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to a hospital in Lafayette. Authorities later stated the driver was listed in stable condition.
A witness told investigators that vehicles involved with the 17th annual Cruisin’ Cajun Country car show were in the area when the crash occurred.
East Main Street remained closed for an extended period while the New Iberia Police Department Traffic Unit investigated the scene. Traffic has since resumed, though the crash remains under active investigation.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this collision, and we hope for their full recovery.
Multi-Vehicle Crashes on Busy City Streets
Crashes involving multiple vehicles on busy urban roadways can lead to serious injuries and significant traffic disruptions, especially when turning movements and heavy traffic are involved. Intersections and commercial corridors often require drivers to make quick decisions while navigating surrounding vehicles and pedestrians.
Authorities encourage motorists to use caution when changing lanes or making turns across traffic. Remaining alert, signaling intentions early, and reducing speed in congested areas may help lower the risk of serious collisions.
