Newton Co, MO (January 14, 2026) – One person was killed and another seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night on Rosebay Drive, approximately seven miles northeast of Seneca.
The collision occurred at around 8:51 p.m. along an eastbound stretch of Rosebay Drive. A 1995 Chevrolet Silverado traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a nearby river embankment, resulting in catastrophic damage to the vehicle.
Emergency medical personnel arrived quickly to provide care at the scene. An adult male occupant, age 36, suffered serious injuries and was transported to Freeman Hospital in Joplin for treatment. The driver, a 38-year-old man from Joplin, sustained fatal injuries and was transported to Mercy Hospital in Joplin, where he was pronounced deceased.
The pickup truck was declared a total loss and removed from the area by Metro Towing. Authorities confirmed that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while the injured occupant was restrained.
The incident prompted a significant emergency response, with assistance provided by multiple law enforcement units in the area. Officials have confirmed that next of kin has been notified, and the crash remains under investigation.
