What Makes Wrong-Way Crashes So Dangerous on Interstates
Wrong-way crashes are among the most severe types of highway incidents because they often result in head-on impacts. Vehicles traveling in opposite directions at high speeds create a strong force of impact, increasing the likelihood of fatal injuries.
These incidents can occur due to driver confusion, impairment, or missed roadway signs. Interstates typically have clear markings and barriers, but entering the wrong side can still happen, especially at night or in low-visibility conditions.
Drivers who spot a wrong-way vehicle are encouraged to reduce speed, move to the right lane, and avoid direct paths. Quick reporting can help alert others, but these situations can escalate rapidly due to closing speeds.
