Norfolk, VA January 1, 2026 – A single-vehicle crash late Tuesday night on I-264 eastbound near the Valentine Blvd off-ramp resulted in a serious medical emergency after the driver was found unresponsive behind the wheel.
Emergency crews from Norfolk Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene at approximately 11:27 p.m., after a tow truck driver on site reported a black Dodge Ram on the right shoulder with the driver slumped over the steering wheel. Responders were flagged down by the tow operator, who had hazard lights on while awaiting assistance.
Upon arrival, Engine One, Ladder One, and Medic Eight confirmed the presence of the vehicle with the unresponsive individual inside. Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) units were also on scene to help secure the area.
The driver was immediately evaluated by paramedics, though officials have not released further information regarding their condition or whether the incident was caused by a medical emergency, mechanical issue, or other factors. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
