North Chicago, IL (May 13, 2026) – A motorcyclist was critically injured early Tuesday morning following a collision involving a car along Route 41 in North Chicago, according to authorities.
Police and fire crews responded around 12:08 a.m. to the area of Route 41 and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive after receiving reports of a serious two-vehicle crash. Emergency responders arrived to find heavy damage at the scene and the motorcycle rider ejected onto the roadway.
Investigators said a 2021 BMW motorcycle and a 2021 Kia sedan were both traveling northbound on Route 41 when the collision occurred. The impact caused the motorcyclist to be thrown from the bike.
Paramedics transported the injured rider to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Authorities later confirmed the man remained hospitalized in critical condition at Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Officials stated no other injuries were reported in the crash. The driver of the Kia remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police also noted that impairment is not believed to have been a factor, though speed may have contributed to the collision.
The Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team assisted North Chicago police with the investigation, which remains ongoing.
Our thoughts are with the injured motorcyclist, and we hope for his recovery.
Motorcycle Crashes on Major Roadways
Motorcycle crashes on busy highways and major roadways can result in severe injuries, especially when riders are ejected during the collision. Speed, traffic flow, and limited reaction time can all increase the severity of these incidents.
Authorities encourage drivers and motorcyclists to remain attentive, maintain safe speeds, and watch carefully for surrounding traffic. Wearing protective gear and practicing defensive driving may also help reduce the risk of serious injuries in motorcycle crashes.
