Why Tree Collisions Can Cause Severe Injuries
Roadways near neighborhoods and campuses, such as Northwest 119 Street, often run alongside sidewalks, curbs, and trees planted close to the roadway. When a vehicle leaves the lane of travel, these fixed objects can become immediate hazards.
Collisions with trees can cause severe damage because the object does not move on impact. The sudden stop created by hitting a solid object can transfer strong forces into the vehicle and its occupants.
Loss of control, sudden steering corrections, or roadway conditions may contribute to these types of crashes. When vehicles leave the pavement and strike roadside obstacles, the impact can result in serious injuries for those inside the vehicle.
