Oakland Park, FL (January 16, 2026) – A devastating two-vehicle accident claimed the lives of two individuals and left a third person hospitalized on Thursday night in Broward County, according to officials from the Broward Sheriff’s Office.
The crash occurred around 7:15 p.m. near the intersection of Northwest 9th Avenue and 40th Street in Oakland Park. Deputies and emergency personnel from Oakland Park Fire Rescue arrived quickly after receiving reports of a serious collision.
Tragically, two people were pronounced dead at the scene by first responders. A third person involved in the accident was transported by paramedics to a local hospital for treatment. The individual’s condition was not disclosed.
In response to the fatal crash, authorities shut down NW 9th Avenue in both directions as crews investigated and worked to clear the scene. The closure lasted several hours and caused notable disruptions in the area.
Detectives with BSO’s Traffic Homicide Unit are actively investigating the incident. Details surrounding what led up to the collision, including whether speed, impairment, or other factors were involved, have not yet been released.
