What Happens When Multiple Vehicles Collide at an Intersection?
Multi-vehicle crashes at intersections often occur when traffic movements overlap, such as turning, crossing, or merging at the same time. Even a single misjudgment about speed or right-of-way can trigger a chain reaction involving several vehicles.
Intersections are also high-risk areas because drivers may be focused on multiple directions of traffic at once. In serious crashes, emergency crews may need to extricate trapped occupants using specialized tools before transporting them for medical care. Investigators typically review traffic signals, vehicle positions, and witness accounts to understand how the collision developed.
