How Secondary Crashes Can Occur During Roadside Emergencies
Secondary crashes can happen when vehicles stop along active roadways. Drivers approaching the area may not expect a stopped car or people outside their vehicles, which can increase the risk of a collision.
Emergency vehicles responding to calls may also be traveling quickly, which can reduce reaction time if unexpected obstacles appear. Limited visibility at night can further increase the danger for those on or near the roadway.
Staying aware of surroundings and moving vehicles as far from traffic as possible can help reduce risks. Roadside situations often change quickly, making it harder for drivers to react in time.
