Spotsylvania County, VA (July 15, 2026) – A 78-year-old pilot died after a small plane crashed on Tuesday morning, July 14, near Shannon Airport in Spotsylvania County.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Montana Coyote aircraft went down along Tidewater Trail at approximately 11:05 a.m. The pilot was the only person aboard the plane. He was identified as Rowland Babcock Jr., 78, of Ruther Glen, who died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The aircraft came down near a tractor dealership along Tidewater Trail. There were no injuries reported to anyone on the ground. The cause of the crash has not yet been released, but federal investigators continue working to determine what led to the fatal plane crash.
