Newberry Springs, CA (July 7, 2026) – One person died and four others were injured after a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon, July 5, on northbound Interstate 15 south of Harvard Road. The accident was reported at about 12:10 p.m.
Dispatch information indicated the wreck may have involved a Toyota and a hatchback. Both vehicles came to rest in the center divider, and debris was scattered across the freeway.
An iPhone alert first reported the crash, but there was no reply from the occupants. One person was later confirmed dead and remained trapped inside a vehicle, described in dispatch logs as a silver Nissan hatchback.
Two critically injured patients were flown directly from Interstate 15 to Loma Linda University Medical Center. A third helicopter was later requested for another patient after that person arrived by ground ambulance at Barstow Community Hospital.
Interstate 15 was closed in both directions while emergency units worked and helicopters landed on the freeway. The person who died had not been publicly identified.
