Kenly, NC (July 15, 2026) – One person was killed, and another suffered critical injuries after a commercial crane crashed on Tuesday afternoon, July 14, along Interstate 95 near Kenly in Johnston County.
According to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, the crash was reported shortly after 4:08 p.m. Investigators said the commercial crane experienced a tire failure, causing the vehicle to leave the roadway and overturn.
Two people were inside the crane at the time of the crash. The passenger died from injuries sustained in the wreck, while the driver was transported to WakeMed in critical condition. The identity of the victim has not yet been released. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
