Dimmit Co., TX (June 16, 2026) – One man died and one passenger was hurt early Sunday morning, June 14, after an accident on U.S. Highway 83 in Dimmit County.
The report said the wreck happened around 3:16 a.m., about four miles north of Carrizo Springs near Midway Park Road, also known as County Road 101. A 2024 Hyundai Sonata was traveling southbound before leaving the roadway and entering a bar ditch.
The vehicle hit a concrete embankment and rolled over. The driver, identified as 29-year-old Brandon Lee Frausto of Carrizo Springs, was ejected and was later struck by a truck tractor whose driver was trying to avoid the disabled vehicle.
Frausto was pronounced dead at the site. A passenger in the Hyundai was brought to Dimmit Regional Hospital, though that person’s medical status was not confirmed in the initial report.
The review of the fatal rollover remains ongoing as more facts are gathered. Our heartfelt condolences go to Frausto’s family and friends during this difficult time.
Why Ejections Are a Major Risk in Rollover Crashes
Rollover accidents can be especially dangerous because a vehicle may strike the ground or nearby objects from several angles. People inside may face sudden movement, broken glass, roof crush, or contact with interior surfaces.
Seat belts can reduce the chance of being thrown from a vehicle, but serious harm can still occur during a forceful rollover. Vehicle speed, road edge design, shoulder slope, and nearby barriers can all affect how severe the outcome becomes.
Early morning travel can also bring added risk. Darkness may make it harder to judge lane edges, curves, and roadside hazards. After a rollover, medical teams often check for head trauma, internal injuries, spine damage, and breathing problems, even when some symptoms are not obvious right away.
