What Investigators Commonly Review After a Bicycle Crash Involving a Vehicle
After a fatal bicycle collision, investigators typically examine the direction of travel for both the cyclist and the vehicle involved. Road positioning and lane usage are often key factors in understanding how the crash occurred.
Visibility conditions, lighting, and roadway design may also be reviewed, especially during evening hours. Investigators commonly assess whether the bicyclist and driver had enough time and distance to react before impact.
Vehicle damage, bicycle placement, and roadway markings can help reconstruct the sequence of events. In cases involving multiple passengers, witness statements from those inside the vehicle may also assist investigators in determining the circumstances surrounding the collision.
