What Information Is Often Reviewed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Crashes?
Hit-and-run pedestrian crashes often require investigators to piece together evidence quickly to identify the fleeing driver and vehicle. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras can play a major role in these investigations, especially in downtown areas with frequent vehicle and foot traffic.
Investigators typically review vehicle direction, roadway positioning, and pedestrian movement leading up to the collision. In unusual crashes involving reversing vehicles, authorities may also examine parking activity, visibility, and driver awareness at the scene. Debris, paint transfer, and witness statements can help narrow down the type of vehicle involved. Medical reports are also commonly reviewed to better understand the severity and mechanics of the injuries suffered during the crash.
