What Happens During a Residential Fire Death Investigation?
When a fatal residential fire occurs, investigators work to determine how and where the fire started. This often involves examining burn patterns, structural damage, and possible ignition sources inside the home.
Fire investigators may also review electrical systems, appliances, and heating equipment to identify potential causes. In some cases, weather conditions, building materials, and the layout of the structure are analyzed to understand how quickly the fire spread. Medical examiners also play a role in determining the cause of death. These investigations can take time as officials carefully rule out accidental and intentional causes before reaching a final determination.
