How Turning Vehicles Contribute to Motorcycle Crashes
Motorcycle crashes frequently occur when another vehicle turns across the rider’s path at an intersection or driveway entrance. These situations can develop quickly, especially when drivers misjudge the distance or speed of an approaching motorcycle.
Unlike larger vehicles, motorcycles have a smaller profile on the road. This can make them harder to detect in busy traffic areas or near commercial entrances where vehicles are frequently turning.
Collisions in these situations often happen when a vehicle attempts a left turn or crosses a lane of travel. Even at moderate speeds, the impact between a motorcycle and a larger vehicle can lead to severe damage and serious injury for the rider.
Areas near shopping centers, parking lot entrances, and intersections often see increased turning traffic. These conditions can create situations where motorcycles and turning vehicles meet within a short amount of time.
