How Road Surface Conditions Can Affect Scooter Safety
Small vehicles such as standing scooters can be more sensitive to road surface conditions than larger vehicles. Even minor changes in pavement, including cracks or uneven areas, can affect balance and control.
When a scooter wheel strikes a pothole or raised edge, the sudden shift can cause the rider to lose stability. This risk can increase at night when visibility may be reduced.
Urban streets with heavy traffic may also contain debris or worn pavement from frequent vehicle use. Regular maintenance and resurfacing projects are often used to help keep roads smoother for all types of travel.
Protective gear, including helmets, can help reduce injury risk during falls. Riders are also encouraged to stay alert for road hazards and adjust speed when traveling on streets where pavement conditions may change.
