Palm City, FL (May 5, 2026) – An adult male driver was airlifted to a hospital after a crash on Monday afternoon, May 4, in Palm City. The collision happened around 4:00 p.m. near Southwest Citrus Boulevard and Southwest Zarrella Street.
The crash involved a van and a flatbed tractor-trailer. Officials said the trailer had stopped to turn west onto Southwest Zarrella Street before the impact occurred at the rear of the trailer.
Emergency units worked to free the van driver after the crash. He suffered traumatic injuries and was flown by helicopter to a hospital for care.
No other vehicles were involved in the collision. Roads in the area were later reopened after the scene was cleared.
The crash remains under investigation. Additional details may become available as authorities continue their review.
Our thoughts are with the injured driver as he receives medical care.
Rear-End Crashes Involving Larger Trucks
Rear-end crashes involving vans and larger trucks can cause serious injuries because of the size and height difference between the vehicles. A flatbed trailer may sit higher than a passenger vehicle, which can change the vision of other vehicles and how the impact affects the front of a van.
These crashes can also require a more complex rescue. Damaged doors, crushed front sections, or shifted vehicle parts may make it harder to reach the driver safely. Emergency units may need to stabilize the vehicle before removing someone from inside.
Roads with turning traffic and nearby side streets can create sudden slowdowns. Larger trucks may need extra time and space to turn, while nearby drivers may need more distance to react safely.
