What Factors Can Lead to a Vehicle Striking a Fixed Object Like a Tree?
Single-vehicle crashes involving trees or other fixed objects often occur when a driver loses control of the vehicle. Speed, distraction, or a sudden steering input can cause the vehicle to leave its lane.
Road design and visibility also play a role, especially in residential or mixed-traffic areas where turns and intersections are frequent. Poor lighting at night can make it harder for drivers to stay within their lane.
When a vehicle leaves the roadway and hits a fixed object, the impact force is concentrated, which can increase the severity of injuries. Safety restraints such as seatbelts and airbags are designed to reduce harm, but outcomes still depend on speed and angle of impact.
