What Factors Can Lead to Vehicles Crossing Into Opposing Traffic Lanes?
Crashes involving vehicles crossing into opposing lanes can occur for several reasons. Loss of control, sudden steering, or drifting out of a lane may cause a vehicle to enter oncoming traffic.
Driver condition is one factor to consider. Fatigue, distraction, or reduced awareness can affect how well a driver maintains lane position, especially during early morning hours.
Road design and conditions can also influence lane departure incidents. Curves, poor lighting, or uneven surfaces may make it harder to stay within a lane. When a vehicle crosses into opposing traffic, the risk of a severe crash increases due to the force of impact.
